Applications

A sorting problem.
A practical approach.

Six families of stream. Pick yours to see what we take out of it, with which machine, and what that changes for the lot.

Crushed copper motor cores mixed with shredded metal on a conveyor belt under a delta robot

Matvision Refine

E40 · ferrous scrap after the overband

The magnet takes copper motors and attached non-ferrous pieces along with the steel. We take them off the belt: a cleaner steel grade, and copper sold as an output of its own.

Separated fractions stored as heaps in concrete bunker bays at a recycling plant

Matvision Grade

Zorba · non-ferrous after eddy current

Copper, zinc, lead, brass and stainless, all mixed and worth very different prices. Each piece is identified and placed in the output where it is worth the most, in a single pass.

Used batteries of mixed chemistries in bulk

Matvision Refine

WEEE · batteries first, then the value

Batteries come out first, because safety comes before value. The same pass then takes connectors and populated boards before they are diluted in the rest of the lot.

Sorted copper pieces recovered from a mixed metal stream

Matvision Grade · Matvision Sense

Alloys · grade inside a family

Once a fraction is separated by family, what remains of its value is the grade. LIBS reads the composition, where no surface measurement can.

Two piles of shredded metal on a concrete yard at dusk, beside a shredder outfeed

Matvision Grade

Production scrap

Offcuts, rejects and process losses: known alloys in unknown proportions. Measured piece by piece, they go back to the melt at the value of each family rather than at the price of a mixed lot.

Non-ferrous fraction recovered from incinerator bottom ash: mixed metal pieces coated in ash

Matvision Refine or Grade

Incinerator bottom ash (IBA)

The non-ferrous fraction recovered from bottom ash still carries what a refiner will not pay for. We take it out, or split the fraction into the families a buyer purchases separately.

Where the numbers come from

Every application starts
on a real stream.

Models are trained and measured on the material itself, at target conveyor speed and feeding density, before anything is written into an offer.

Beyond these six streams

A stream that is not in this list.

Most of our work starts from one of the families above. The rest starts from a material nobody has sorted this way before: a production residue, a fraction from a new process, a separation a research project is trying to prove. We take those on as projects, with the same method and the same machines.

A line for one stream

Built for your use case

When a stream falls outside these six families, the machine is configured for it rather than the other way round: sensors chosen on your material, outputs chosen on what you sell, from the performance study to commissioning.

Characterisation

Measure before you invest

Send material and get its composition measured piece by piece, with the report that goes with it. A Matvision Sense unit can also be installed on its own, on a pilot line or in a laboratory.

Research projects

R&D and collaborative projects

Matvision takes part in European collaborative R&D projects and works with research teams and industrial groups on separations that do not exist yet. Consortium partners are welcome to write.
